A Little Bit About Luke's Great Dad

When I was a senior in high school, I had an art class with this really cute guy. He always wore tee-shirts with bands on them and while I noticed him I never really thought he saw me. Our teacher offered the more advanced students the opportunity to do a photography class and lo and behold, Dillon and I were the only ones who said we wanted to participate.

I remember trying to listen to our teacher at the beginning of the photography class but then having a random thought pop into my head saying "Oh, one day you'll tell your grand kids that you met in a photography class!" I pushed the thought aside, embarrassed to promise my future to a 16 year old boy who had no interest in me, whatsoever.

And, now, here we are, 12 years later with a wonderful life together and a sweet little boy who is the light of our lives. I could write manifestos on how wonderful Dillon is, what a great husband he is, and about how he's the most caring father. He's a hard worker who once worked a 90 hour work week. Someone once asked me how that's even possible and I told them that you work 7 days a week from  sun up until sun down. Dillon's about the smartest person I know, making sense of math and engineering that makes my eyes go cross and being able to build or fix just about anything.

And, about his role as a dad, what can I say? Dillon got up nights with Luke when he was a newborn, fed him, changed his diapers and cleaned up lakes of vomit. He's taken care of both Luke and I when the stomach bug hit and I couldn't lift my weak legs out of bed. He's a manly man, but not so manly that he withholds kisses to Luke in public. He's kissed boo-boos, held hands, and made Luke giggle so hard that we all laugh. He's rearranged his work schedule to help with child care, dealt with my hormonal mess of a self, and taken it all in stride. I'm glad that he's setting the bar for Luke, letting him know what it means to be a man who loves his family.

Dillon - you're about the greatest man I've ever met and I don't know how Luke and I ever got so lucky to have you. Much love and Happy Father's Day.

Makin' sure that baby's safe!

And some photos from today... The Creggers came over and we celebrated with rib eyes on the grill. YUMO

Salad Making

Dillon cooking on his birthday/Father's Day gift, a new gas grill! We've used it so much already and I'm reaping the benefits of Dillon's cooking.

And PS, Luke's in a "big boy" bed now! A towel is rolled up under the sheet to keep him from rolling out (which happened about 6 times in the first two nights, whoopsie!)

Day Out with Thomas the Train

Several months ago, I came across a link on the internet that talked about places across the country that Thomas the Train visits and takes passengers along for a ride. When I did a little further research, I found out that Thomas comes to Boone, NC at Tweetsie Railroad, just a short drive from Asheville!

I made sure our tickets were purchased and anxiously anticipated taking Luke because I knew how excited he would be. We made our way to Boone this weekend with a very hyper Luke who kept asking if we got to ride on Thomas Train.

We met my mom and dad there and enjoyed the day riding the train and saying hi to Thomas. We rode on little rail cars, too and enjoyed some barbecue for lunch. It got really hot towards the middle of the day and Luke was tired without having a nap all morning, so we headed back home.

It was so magical for Luke, though. Every time we saw Thomas he would yell out "Hi, Thomas!" Other than the large crowds, it was a fun time.

We spent today cleaning and organizing the house and took items to Goodwill. It's been super hot here, in the 90's, so we've tried to stay cool indoors. Here's to a fun summer week!

Seeing Thomas for the first time!

In the conductor hat he didn't want to wear!

So, epic fail. Luke wanted to steer, I was afraid we were going to go over the rails and we had a meltdown. We survived though, minus one toy truck that was lost in the mix.

My hair says it all :p
