A Virginia Weekend

Friday, Dillon's daddy had a minor surgery where he had a pacemaker put in. They called on Thursday and asked if he could come in earlier on Friday so we headed up early Friday morning only to wait all day for him to have his surgery. You know how hospital stays goes... you wait and wait and wait. But finally he had his surgery and they rolled him right on up to a room. Thankfully, he only had to stay one night and then he was released to come home. He's doing well with some minor swelling and a little bit of pain. Hopefully, the pacemaker will help him feel even better.  We got to spend some good time with Dillon's family and the weather was perfect.

Everyone did fairly well. Our schedules were off so Charlie has fallen asleep tonight at 6:30 and Luke was a handful this weekend! Ha!  We're all a little run down, glad to be home, but missing our family.

Dillon did get some exciting news this week, though. One of his instructors from AB Tech emailed him randomly this week and asked if he would be willing to teach a civil engineering course on Monday evenings this coming fall. He jumped at the chance and is excited (and nervous) to get started. He's making lesson plans and a syllabus. We'll see how this goes, but we're all very excited for him!

Sorry for the short blog, but I am pretty tired! Hopefully I'll feel up to writing more soon!

The Museum of Life & Science

We spent some time today at the Museum of Life & Science in Durham, about 3 hours from us.  Let me just say, that place is ah-mazing. We got in for free (!!!!) with our membership to the WNC Nature Center. If you're paying to go, tickets are a little pricey ($18 for adults and I think it was $15 for kids), but I think it would be well worth the investment to check this place out.

It was super hot today though, making us all a little cranky and irritable, but I know we weren't the only ones. We had lunch at the little cafe on site and it was filled with parents all yelling at their kids. The tension was palpable. Some of the highlights of our trip were the dinosaur walk, the train ride, the butterfly house and the science activities indoors. We missed out on the tree houses and the bear/wolf exhibit just because it was so hot we didn't feel like being outdoors anymore, but it's definitely on our list of to dos on our return visit. The indoor exhibits will be good for Luke (and Charlie!) when they're older. It was hard to get into when Luke doesn't know all the terminology yet. And the bigger kids kind of ran him over, but I'll give it to Luke, he holds his own with kids of any size.

Our plan was to hit up the Asheboro Zoo and the Museum of Life and Science and stay over night, but we had some things come up this week so we decided to just do a day trip. It's also a really long drive so next time we'll stay the night, ha! The kids were troopers today though, and we all had a really good time. I can't wait for our next visit!

The butterflies were my favorite!

See the birds past Luke? They just came out of nowhere and walked across the path.

I thought this was a cool picture of the butterfly in flight!

Hot and grumpy after he spent 30 minutes trying to pick something out at the gift shop.

Obligatory sleeping Luke picture after a busy day.
