End of Summer

Our summer has been winding down. The weather is a tinge cooler and we even have trees with the tips changing color. It seems awful early for fall to begin now, but then I realized that Monday is the first of September. Say what?! What the heck have we done all summer? Or all year for that matter? The next thing we know, it'll be Christmas and the start of 2015.

We've had an interesting week of sorts. A baby with a tummy bug and busy work hours for both Dillon and I. This weekend we tried to recuperate, but ended up running errands and organizing our basement some more (only 4 months into living in this house... we still had boxes we hadn't unpacked).

Really, we've just spent time around our new home. We're taking a trip to Richmond to visit Kenzie and Taylor and they have all kinds of fun things planned! Hopefully then, we'll have better photos. I know it's bad when Dillon tells me I need to update the blog and my mom tells me we need to take more pictures! Hopefully with the start of fall we'll be more interesting (probably not, but hey, we are who we are!)

Dillon has been so kind to share photos from his phone so that I'll have more to post...

Here's Luke at his "new to him" table! This was my table when I was little and my mom thought it might be cool to paint the top with chalkboard paint. Luke now has a table to draw on (and we've had some fun with it too!) Notice all the toys... it's becoming an epidemic.

One of Luke's new favorite things is to play outside in the yard!

We had dinner outside Saturday night... minus the mosquitoes it was pleasant!

Luke loves imitating his daddy... here he is wearing his shoes!

Sunday afternoon, he needed to run off some energy. We went and checked out the walking trails around the high school near our house. Luke loved running free.
His pictures are always blurry because he never sits still!

16 Months

I'll start off by saying that I don't have many photos to share on this post. We've really just stayed at home here lately and we're too busy chasing Luke to get cute pictures!

He turned 16 months old yesterday and with this new month comes new changes. He is becoming more verbal every day. His teacher has taught him how to say "Ta-Da!" and "Vroom Vroom" like a car. She also sings the B-I-B-L-E song and Luke can now say "Bible." He knows what "doggies" are and wakes up yelling for "DAAAD!"

He has new skills of using spoons and forks and we are slowly working our way out of the bad habit of throwing food/silverware/plates/cups on the floor.

We're still in the clumsy faze and have to be persistent in watching Luke. Last week, Dillon had taken Luke to the grocery store and I had worked on laundry in the basement. While coming back up the stairs, my arms were full and I was distracted and left the gate open. I was distracted (as I usually am these days) and when Dillon got home he put Luke down to look at something on the bar and the next thing I knew, I heard a thud and Dillon yelling "No, no, no!" in the most panicked voice I've ever heard. I ran through the house to hear Luke crying and Dillon holding him. Luke had taken a tumble down the stairs. Of course, he was fine a few minutes later, but Dillon and I were shaken to the core. He had a bruised forehead and a small cut above his eye and I made him sleep in the bed with us, just in case he had a concussion. But he was back to playing like normal in less than 5 minutes. You can bet that we are adamant about closing that gate now.

Luke loves daycare and his new teacher, Mrs. Freida. She teaches them songs and takes them out to play in the sandbox. They read stories every day and she has weekly lesson plans about what they are learning. I am so pleased with the care he receives while Dillon and I are at work every day. In fact, today, I don't think he wanted to leave and wanted to stay with all of his friends!

Every day with a 16 month old brings something new. He is so much fun these days and is a sponge soaking it all up. (We have to watch when we make mistakes now and not slip up and say a dirty word!)

And I promise, we'll have more, better pictures soon. We have some small trips coming up which will be blog-worthy in photos!! To make up for a low number of pictures, I'll include some videos. :)

Sharing my milkshake. Actually, I think Luke shared the milkshake with ME. He ate the majority of it and wouldn't let me have the cup!

My mom and dad came and stayed with us this weekend and allowed us to have a much deserved date night! We went to Pisgah Brewing and saw some good music and enjoyed a beer. Of course, Luke never missed us and had a great night hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa!
Luke and my glasses. He looks so very hip(ster)

Accident prone Lucas... :-\

Our home is never quiet now :-) But it's always interesting!

Keeping Up

It's been a few weeks since I've updated this little blog. We have been so incredibly busy with work that we haven't had much time. Plus, the blog would have went something like "Sleep, Work, Eat, TV, Repeat."

We're all doing well and Luke is growing quickly. He's going through a faze right now where he clings onto either Dillon or myself and doesn't want to go to anyone else. He's also going through a little bit of a clumsy faze which is about to give me a heart attack. He's always bumping his head or falling. The worst of it was when he fell and busted his nose and lip all at the same time. I was home by myself with him and panicked a little at the site of the blood, but I was able to calmly clean his boo boos and get him calmed down. I had never been so happy to see Dillon pulling into the driveway.

We've all been through a cold, one that put me on antibiotics for 10 days and we spent the weekend getting things more settled at our house. It seems like we just moved everything in and now we're getting it all to where we want it to be. This weekend, Dillon made several trips to Lowe's to get materials to hang our TV above the fireplace, making our living room look 3 times the size as it was before. I think that when we bought a house 6 years ago, I should have just accepted the fact that we will always be running a tab at the home improvement store.

Yesterday, I got to have a lovely mommy's afternoon out with Lauren while the boys took the kids out (or just somewhere). We were able to grab a bite for lunch, walk around the mall and look at things we liked and even grab a coffee. When we all regrouped, the kids had gotten ice cream, the daddies had gotten a beer and we were all in good spirits. Although, I think Lauren said it best that "the kids look homeless!" They had ice cream splattered on their pants and their hair was in disarray, but as long as they all had fun, that's all that mattered.

Things are slowly getting into a routine which is nice. I feel like we may finally be able to slow down a bit and enjoy some quiet time. I'm sure something will come up that changes all that, but for now it's nice!

At Doc Chey's a few weekends ago...

And we enjoyed some free fish at LJS

Some of you may have noticed my Facebook post about Luke falling off the ottoman. This was taken a few moments before the incident! He likes to sit up here and watch for Dillon to come home.

Dudes and Dara day!

Eyeing that ice cream

And some cute videos from Dillon:
