4th of July

We've had a good holiday, one that consists of little plans, swimming pools, popsicles, steaks and sparklers. Dillon and I both conceded that the best days are ones like these where you only need to exist. You don't have to wake at 4:30 to get to work, there are no meetings until 7:00 pm and the kids aren't shuttled off somewhere else.

We started the day off at the pool, swimming until 11:30 or so and had an impromptu cookout at my mom and dad's. Impromptu because we were all hungry and had no lunch plans. The afternoon consisted of long naps and relaxing on the couch. Luke woke up in a funk though because he was having an excellent dream about a playground with two sandboxes one of which had a Caterpillar that included a saw. He actually cried because he wanted the toy so bad. How do you explain that you can't buy something that doesn't even exist?!

Our dinner was filet steaks with lobster tails on the grill. Corn, macaroni salad and watermelon rounded out the meal and we finished it up with sparklers on the front deck. While we were waiting for it to get dark, we watched Moana after Charlie was asleep. The nice thing about where we live is we get a view into the valley of our "neighbors" shooting off fireworks. Our house is surrounded by booms all evening, but we have an especially pleasant view in between trees off our front deck to someone's firework display.

So tomorrow we start again. No more sparklers or popsicles. Back to the grind. But it was good while we were here.

Luke is not a fan of fireworks, hence why we don't go out to see them. He doesn't like the loud booms so he wears ear muffs. ;)
