Brevard Porsche Car Show

You know how some days everything just seems to fall in line? You hit every green light on your commute, someone in front of you buys your coffee, only your favorite songs play on the radio... Yeah. Today wasn't that day.

Dillon's boss told us about a Porsche car show that he was going to be today in Brevard. If you know anything about any of the men in my life, you'll know that cars are life, especially Porsche's. My dad, Dillon, his brother, and now Luke talk cars constantly. They discuss details about them and I have no clue what they're talking about. Even since Luke was a baby, his favorite toy has been Matchbox cars or Hot Wheels. He couldn't even leave the house without holding a car. So when Dillon found out about this car show, it was pretty well determined that we would go.

We were excited (we don't get out much anymore) and Dillon had researched the route the cars would come in on and the best spot in Brevard to have lunch (a BBQ spot that is highly recommended). Dillon had even looked on the menu and picked out what he wanted to eat.

We picked up my mom and dad and drove out to Brevard this morning. If you have kids, you know how it is, you have to pack everything and the kitchen sink so we unloaded our huge stroller, the diaper bag, the kids, the drinks and we headed out down the sidewalk. It started out innocently enough and we went into shops and then it was time to watch the cars come in and so we stood and watched everyone arrive.

Afterwards, we made our way to the restaurant. I thought it was downtown, but we had to walk a few blocks away from downtown and into a residential area. I picked at Dillon, "Are you sure it's here?" "How much further?" "You know we have to walk back UP this hill, right?" But sure enough, we finally came upon the restaurant. At first glance, it was super cute. There were picnic tables outside with toys for the kids and sidewalk chalk. A smoky smell came from inside which made all of our mouths water. I walked up to the door and a sign was posted that said "Due to a private event, we will not open until 2:00 today." I'm not gonna lie, a few choice words escaped all the adults' lips. Dillon was so irritated I thought he might just walk in and steal some of the private party's food. He had researched so hard to make this a fun day for all of us and it wasn't working out (My complaining didn't help, I'm sure). So we trekked back up to town and found a little sandwich shop on main street.

Only thing is, when we finally got situated and had our food order, Charlie was NOT having it. Dillon and I made the mistake earlier this week and talked about how we have never had to leave a restaurant with her. How she's always so mild mannered and well behaved. HA! She put that to the test for sure today. She had her first tantrum where she goes limp in the floor. Full blown kicking and screaming. I'm not sure what started it (maybe she was tired? hungry? both? just annoyed in general...) We ended up taking turns walking with her outside because as soon as she would go to sit down, the meltdown started up again. And to be honest, I think it may be more teeth coming in. She's currently 30 minutes past bedtime and fussing in her crib, she woke up fussy from her nap and only calmed down after I gave her Motrin so something is going on for sure.

Otherwise, we had a good time. The boys all enjoyed looking at cars and my Mom, Charlie and I went in a little antique store to look around. We stopped and got coffee on the way home and between that and the a/c blasting in the car, I think we all felt better.

This coming week, and the weeks that follow, are a little bit crazy, but May always is. We've got a few trips to Virginia planned, a beach trip, a Gala to attend, Mother's Day, graduations, lots of work stuff, and probably little sleep. All will be well though. I'm just glad we're having warmer weather!

At this point, Dillon said his role was to take "realistic" photos and document the experience. HA!

There were two rules... 1. Don't touch the cars and 2. Have fun. Dillon's boss let Luke break rule #1 and sit in the car.

And the toy version of the green car above.

  1. Love Dillon's comment of documenting the experience instead of dealing with Charlie :)
