March 2019

Wow, I really hope this isn't a pattern for me in 2019. I seem to only be updating this thing once a month. Although I guess there really isn't much to update on. I'm sure when the weather turns warm and we start doing more stuff, I'll have more to say.

Since our last post we've had 3 tummy bugs, lice, a fever that I thought was flu (but wasn't) and just more numerous things to make life more difficult. HA! It was never promised to be easy so I'm trying to just make it through. Today was also the time change so that brings along a ton more issues. It's 5:30 and no one wants supper and is still wanting to play for another hour or so.

In the time since I've written last, Charlie has given up her pacifier. Once again, this was much easier with her than it was with Luke. She had chewed on several of them so we threw them away and then we got down to the last paci. She lost it somewhere and I didn't try to hard to find it and just told her it was gone and she was like "oh, ok." and that was that. And she LOVED that paci, so I'm really relieved to be done with that and not have a huge struggle. It does mean that she has a harder time getting to sleep so we've pushed her bedtime back. She was going to bed at 6:00 which is SUPER early, but now we're starting our routine at 6:45 and trying to get to bed by 7:00. Which is still a decent hour.  We did find lice in her hair, again, yesterday. So that's been fun. 10 million loads of laundry later and some treatments in her hair and I hope that's been fixed.

Luke has been doing well in school... We go on Tuesday for his parent teacher conference. He's doing so well with his reading and words. It's amazing how far he's come since the beginning of the year. He woke up on Friday with a fever and was very lethargic. I felt certain that he had the flu, but one trip to the peds office and a flu test later it was negative. With some motrin and rest, he was pretty much back to normal by that afternoon. He's a smart little fella and I'm glad he's getting back to normal.

Next week starts soccer for him. They had some of the coaches come by his school and he announced he wanted to play. We've bought him some shin guards, and found some cleats. Next week when we go to our first game he gets his uniform so we're all excited about that.

Today's weather has just been magnificent. I'm ready for spring and am done with winter completely.  Currently, the kids are playing outside with Hannah and they're running with the dogs and just yelling in complete happiness. Let's get on with this and start the spring/summer.

Swingin' at church!

Luke picked some dandelions for me today!

They had literacy week at school and some of the older kids read to the kindergartners.

February 2019

Wow, we're already to the middle of February. And I've only updated this thing 3 times this year. It's probably because we haven't been doing anything super fun to report on. We've been busy with work travel, hospital stays, work, work and more work and now, thanks to this weekend, we can add being sick to that list.

I returned home from Florida with some kind of funk off the airplane which has sense been shared with Dillon. Yesterday I came down with either the stomach bug or the worst migraine I've ever had. I think it may have been a migraine because no one else has been sick and the nauseousness came with a pounding headache. Either way, it wasn't fun and it ruined all kinds of plans yesterday. Dillon and I were going to go out on an afternoon date for Valentine's but I guess it's been postponed until next weekend (as long as everyone remains healthy).

My work trip to Florida was incredibly brief as my mom had her lung biopsy that Friday so I was barely there for 24 hours. I will say that the nice king sized bed I had was about the best night's sleep I've had in awhile. My mom's biopsy went well and was quite painful but she has recovered nicely. We also received good news that she does not have pulmonary fibrosis, but rather an allergic reaction or an immune system issue that makes her congested and have problems with breathing and her lungs. She's on high doses of steroids for now and will see a rheumatologist in the near future to see what's going on with her immune system. I'm just thankful that she doesn't have PF.

We've also had some good weather here recently. It is quite up and down, but 70 degree days make me long for springtime. Our trees have buds and I know it's on the way, but I also know that a North Carolina spring can be finicky and we're probably looking for at least one more winter weather system.

Our new dog, Ruby, is fitting in quite well. Yesterday when I was sick, she stayed right with me. She has a few little quirks that we're working on, but for the most part she's a very sweet dog and we're glad to have her as part of our family. Ruby and Charlie have a strong bond for some reason and Charlie's favorite thing is to take Ruby for a walk in the back yard. Ruby and I also like to walk to the bottom of the hill to get Luke off the bus in the evenings, when the weather permits. When you're used to having a little animal in your house for over 12 years, it really is lonely without them.

We've got a few trips planned this year to Williamsburg and back to the beach. We're excited for Bush Gardens on Luke's birthday and going to see Colonial Williamsburg with Cory & Lindsay! Spring break this year falls right on Luke's birthday so that's good timing. We've also got our Easter outfits ready and will start preparing for that soon! We're hanging on for warmer weather... it'll be here soon!

The marketing geniuses for Jurassic World have put codes on the bottom of their dinosaur toy's feet and they have an app where you can keep track of your collection. Guess what Luke's allowance has gone to every week?

This is pretty constant nowadays

It's been a rough few weeks. HA!
