We've had a good day at the Arboretum today. A few weeks ago, I saw on Facebook where if you have a library card with the Buncombe County libraries they would offer free passes to local attractions like the Nature Center, the Art Museum and the Arboretum. I signed up for one and we got into the Arboretum for free! Yay for the library!
We did have to go to the downtown library yesterday, but we found that it was really easy to park in the deck right behind the library and go right in from there. Luke loved the Pack Library. They have a whole children's area whereas the children's area in our local library is tiny. They even had a whole section of books devoted to dinosaurs and Legos. He was in heaven. We checked out a few books from there and found out that we don't have to drive downtown to return the books, we can just drop them off at our local library and they'll take care of getting them back to the appropriate place. Our parking was even free because we were there for less than an hour and picking up the pass was as easy as showing them my library card!
Today, we got up and after Charlie napped (for 2 hours in her crib! I hope she's not getting my cold :-\) we left for the Arboretum. We packed a nice picnic lunch and had fun eating on the grass. We walked around the grounds and saw pretty flowers, bird boxes, the toy trains in action and a HUGE black snake that coiled up around a tree. Luke was terrified of the snake, but we explained that black snakes aren't bad if you just leave them alone to their own thing.
Luke was so tired on the way back that he had to be carried to the car and almost fell asleep on the trip back. He got to run and play all day in the pretty weather. We liked it so much that we're thinking about buying passes that allow us into some local zoos, the Nature Center and the Arboretum as much as we want. Since we're on a tight budget now, that would allow us some fun, outdoor activities!
