We're back from our vacation and we have all been sick. Dillon and I sent the kids to church with my parents because we have something. I don't know if it's the flu or what, but it makes your skin ache. It's pretty bad.
We left Tuesday night after work and we got to about Winston Salem, and Charlie puked. We trucked forward hoping it was only motion sickness but by the next day, she was running a pretty strong fever. We changed our plans and decided to not go to Busch Gardens that day, but to wait and go on Thursday. It was Luke's actual birthday that day anyways so that worked out well. We did venture out to Colonial Williamsburg that afternoon to see the sites and get some ice cream. I LOVE Colonial Williamsburg and it has always been one of my favorite places to visit. I wish we would have had more time to peruse the area, but it was rather crowded and we needed to get back to make supper.
Thursday was Luke's 6th birthday and he woke up to "Happy Birthday" banners and balloons everywhere! We loaded up and went to Busch Gardens for the day. Since it was the week before Easter, I think that it was more crowded than what Corey and Lindsay are used to, but it wasn't all that bad! Luke road on a roller coaster and a few rides and Charlie was pretty grumpy most of the day. But it was still fun. Cory and Dillon split off for a little while and road big boy roller coasters. While they did that, we took the kids to see the Clydesdale horses and ride the train. We also spent some more time in the Sesame Street area so it was pretty fun. We stayed a good 10 hours there that day so we were all exhausted by the end of it!
Friday, we took the kids to the Virginia Living Museum. Charlie was feeling better and they had a dinosaur walk so our kids were thrilled. They both really enjoyed it and we walked around and saw all kinds of animals, found a hobbit house and saw some interesting things! It was really great and if we lived in that area, I would take the kids there all the time to blow off some steam! The nice thing about that museum is we got in for free with our Nature Center passes from here in Asheville!
Saturday we got up and took the kids to Jamestown and saw the original colony. It was a little windy, but that place is so interesting. It's right on the James River and the history there is just amazing. We finished up with lunch at Old Town Barbecue where Charlie had the meltdown to end all meltdowns. After that we headed back to our car, picked up Ruby and made our way back to Asheville!
Luke was kind of down and out on Friday so I think he had a touch of what Charlie had, but he was a trooper and never complained once and just went with the crowd. Yesterday, Dillon and I both started feeling poorly and by this morning we were both sick. I feel a little better as long as I keep ibuprofen in my system, so I hope that by tomorrow I'll be better. In our downtime, Lindsey made us delicious meals and we hung out in the hot tub (Ruby even jumped in the hot tub one evening to jump to me! HA! Who would have thought, but she's a great swimmer.) We're glad to be home, sad to be returning to work tomorrow, but all in all it was a good trip. Here's on to our next adventure!
Poor Charlie, how most of her time was spent.
Wiping ice cream off her shoes.
Somewhere, there's a picture of Cory and Dillon doing this exact same thing on their 5th grade trip to Williamsburg! <3
Photo of joy after riding the roller coaster!
We all cheered because this was the first time Charlie smiled!
I told Dillon I didn't really want my picture taken since I felt like poo. Oh well.
This also happened last weekend. Tree is gone, but now we have to fix the porch!
Sorry Charlie was sick...the stomach bug is still going around in schools here :( Hope you and Dillon get to feeling better.
